Retirement Figures

What's changed

Retirement Figures now works with or without an account. Here's what's new - and what it means if you already have one.

How your data is stored Three modes: (1) local-only on your devices with no account; (2) cloud sync with a free account; (3) encrypted cloud sync, end-to-end encrypted with a passphrase only you hold. You can now use it without an account

Want to jump straight in? You no longer need to sign up for anything. Choose No account and your plan lives right here on your device - nothing to register, no email required, start instantly. Prefer to sync across your phone, tablet, and computer? Create a free account and your plans are stored securely in the cloud. Both are free, and you can switch later.

Already have an account? Here's what to know

Just sign in as usual and everything is right where you left it. By having an account you can access your plans from multiple devices and they will stay in sync.

Your Plus subscription carries over. If you're a subscriber, Plus stays linked to your account and keeps working across your devices - no need to re-enter anything.

Two ways to store your plans

No account

On your device

  • Instant - nothing to sign up for
  • Private: your plan never leaves your browser
  • Tied to this browser, so export a backup now and then
  • Plus available with a license key

With an account

Synced in the cloud

  • Sign in anywhere and your plans follow you
  • Email and password, or Google sign-in
  • An automatic cloud backup of your work
  • Plus linked to your account

Back up or move your plans anytime

You can now export all of your plans to a single backup file, and import it again later - on the same device or a new one. It's the easy way to keep a safe copy, move to a new browser or phone, or bring a no-account plan into an account (or the other way around). Importing only adds plans - nothing you already have is overwritten.

If you use No account, this is especially worth doing - your plan lives in this browser, so export a backup now and then. You'll find both in Control Center.

Extra privacy for cloud plans

If you keep your plans in the cloud, you can optionally turn on end-to-end encryption with a passphrase only you know. Your plans are encrypted right here in your browser before they're ever uploaded, so no one - not even us - can read them. It's off by default; turn it on in Control Center only if you want it.

There's no passphrase recovery. Because only you know it, we can't reset it - if you forget it, your encrypted plans can't be recovered. So if you turn this on, keep a current exported backup (exports are always unencrypted) somewhere safe - it's your only way back in.

Used Retirement Figures without an email before?

If you previously used the app without an email - with a recovery key - you can bring that plan onto this device. Recover your plan with your key, and it becomes a no-account plan stored on this device. If you no longer have your key, you'll need to start fresh.

After you recover your plan you will no longer need to use your recovery key again.
